The Moon's Astrological Transit
The Moon's Astrological Transit—A Personal Story

Our Cosmic Timekeeper
To practice astrology effectively, one must pay attention to what the natal planets are saying in an astrological house. Additionally, the real-time transit of planets, especially the Moon’s transit, must be considered. Astrology is a magical clock where things just seem to be aligned with the transits of the planets and what they are communicating at any given moment in time.
Tropical Astrology Transits Out of Alignment
When I look at a tropical chart that doesn’t match with the sky I’m looking up at, it doesn’t feel like a true connection to what the stars are communicating.
At the same time I had this realization, I was taking a class taught by a Hellenistic Tropical astrologer. My attendance in the class ceased. Even though I resonate strongly with the teachings, I knew they had to be practiced in a sidereal context. My practice of astrology dwindled as I felt numb and disconnected. This new personal truth needed time to be integrated.
Testing My Astrological Proficiency
Recently, I picked up my books again and decided to take the test for this particular course because the deadline was looming and I wanted the certificate to show proficiency in Hellenistic Astrology. It was during the Libra Full Moon in my 8th house. I had this overwhelming desire to get the test over with. In my rush to finish the test, I misunderstood the second question, which I assumed was tied to the first question.
It took the teacher’s aide a month to get back to me, and it wasn’t good. She delivered the news that I had failed. My disbelief was palpable. I was so confident in my skills. In her response, she told me to take the month of June, go over the study material, and get back to her. This happened as the Moon entered Scorpio.
I checked the chart with the time I had received her email. The Moon was exactly at 1° of Scorpio. This was a few days before the Full Moon in Scorpio (for True Sky astrologers, the Full Moon in Ophiuchus). I went over the question again and realized I had completely misunderstood the question.
My email response to her conveyed what I had in mind when I answered the question initially. She responded within the day to confirm the question was broader and wasn’t specific to the profected house, which I assumed the question was referencing.
Real Time Transits Deliver News
Long story short, I didn’t take the month of June. I wanted to answer the question that day as the Full Moon was exact in my 9th house, but due to other responsibilities, I couldn’t. The question was answered the next day. I sent off my response as the transiting Moon in Sagittarius was exact over my Mid-heaven.Her response came as the transiting Moon was exact on my Sun in Sagittarius. Her final response was overwhelmingly positive. I had passed the test with flying colors!
While all of this happened, I wasn’t tracking where the Moon was in real time, but in writing this post, I went back to the emails and looked at the time against the chart of the moment—a great astrological tool for anyone reviewing events in their own life.
The Moon's Transit
In retrospect, concerning my misunderstanding of the question, the long wait-time initially, and the response coming when the Moon had just entered my 9th house of higher learning, God and astrology. Not to mention the finality of the event happening while the transiting Moon was in my 10th house of Career.
Another important thing to note is that the ruling planet of my 10th house is positioned in the 8th house of my chart, sextile to my Mid-heaven. Further emphasizing the timing of the 8th house initiation of the venture in taking the test to show proficiency in Hellenistic Astrology.
Even though this was the initiation, there wasn’t forethought about the action. I had an overwhelming desire to take the test as the Full Moon in Libra transited my 8th house.
As I reminisce on the moon’s transit through these houses, I can’t help but think of Thoth, the Egyptian God, who is said to be the God of the Moon. Thoth is also the God of wisdom, knowledge, learning, scribes, and sacred texts.
Ancient Cosmic Awareness
The truth of what these transits are speaking to me is that astrology has a definitive place in my life and career. Vettius Valens says the 10th house is the house of Praxis. In a broader sense, “praxis” (from Ancient Greek) means the process by which a theory, lesson, or skill is put into practice, embodied, or applied. That’s exactly what took place while the Moon transited through my 8th and 10th houses, showing the connection between these houses and what they represent in my life.
I had to laugh at this realization because the truth is, even with the knowledge we have, we are not controlling anything in our lives. It’s just another example that we don’t necessarily need to be doing anything for the stars to be speaking in our lives. Astrology works whether we believe in it or not.
For those of us who do believe, it’s easy to think we can navigate this life in foresight, but it’s hindsight where the most benefit can be gained. Stars help to clue us in on the patterns in our own lives. By recognizing and sharing what we’ve understood, perhaps we can help others to navigate and understand their own cosmic terrain.
