@nikitennessen I’ve had an unusual desire to clean, purge, and detox over the last month (which I realize was the last cycle), but I keep getting this intuitive put to do an energetic RESET this cycle. I wondered if I was just being neurotic or something, but then it just occurred to me that my Moon is in Aries, so I’m probably just running up on my lunar calendar reset! Thanks, Niki. I spent the last week trying to convince myself I was just being silly. Never would have made the connection if you hadn’t said something. AND, it makes me feel more justified going all in on some ritual detox tomorrow 😉
::Welcome, @rikki ! We’re so fortunate to have you!!! I’m glad you’re enjoying the course! It’s funny, when I went to Finland, I went to buy something at the airport, and the cashier said, “Hej”, and I was like, “What’s up?”, because in America, “Hey” is a very informal greeting. It took me a few Hejs before I caught on, but in my defense, I was pretty tired that day. Also, Serbian food is amazing! We have a ton of Serbian cafes here. Can’t recommend enough 🥰
::Yeah, Luna Cloud Software is pretty good. It’s like $8/mo. I have a discount code for 10% off if anyone is interested. My only real complaint is that I can’t color-code everything–which isn’t usually an issue for normal people 😄
::Yeah, I think the modern calendar system is kind of a mess. I mean, I guess it’s ‘working’ because it keeps up all on the same page. But I think the lunar calendar is far superior. I switched to a lunar calendar about… I want to say 4 or 5 years ago. I had to recreate all of my own calendars, but it made my life SO much better. When you live and act in alignment with the moon, everything get’s easer–or at least, that’s been my experience 😊
In Mesopotamia, they kept both a solar and lunar calendar. When solar and lunar time were in alignment, it was considered auspicious. But even then, the lunar calendar was more important.
::Let me know how it goes, @rikki ! One of the books I recommend in the course is Babylonian Star-Lore by Gavin White. It’s not an ‘astrology’ book so much as it is a collection of mythology related to the stars and constellations as they were in Mesopotamia. It’s written the layman, which is nice because the scholarly material on the subject can get really in weeds.
::I use Stellarium for all of my natal analysis https://stellarium.org/, and Janus for all of my advanced calculations https://www.astrology-house.com/ At the time, it was one of the only non-Vedic programs that allowed for sidereal calculations. It’s not as pretty as some of the other professional programs, but it allows for viewing the transits in comparison to a static chart, which I haven’t found on any other program. I THINK there’s a way to set it up so that the houses align with the actual constellations, but I never figured it out, and at this point, I don’t really care. I mostly use it for predictive readings, and I don’t do a lot with the constellations at that point–it’s more about the planetary interactions.
::I started working as a professional psychic and astrologer in 1999. I jumped headfirst into both, but I had the luxury of starting out in a real-world community with other astrologers who I was learning from. After my psychic readings, I would test out my new astrology insights, only to find that at least half the time, the descriptions were just totally wrong. My western mentors would justify this saying the client was lying, or that they didn’t want to own up to their personality type.
It didn’t sit with me, especially since my OWN tropical chart didn’t even resonate. Fortunately, I had access to a few Vedic astrologers who politely explained that they use a different zodiac, and encouraged me to try it out. What really sold it for me was the shift from of my Moon from Taurus to Aries. I never looked at astrology the same way after that.
I was lucky that I hadn’t built my entire career off of tropical. I can understand the cognitive dissonance in a lot of professional astrologers. I’m here because astrology is a part of our collective heritage that goes back… probably since we started looking up at the stars. I want to help bring that ancient wisdom back into the mainstream, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to honor my ancestors in what I pray is a lasting and positive way. 🙏
::So Hipparchus still gets credit for discovering precession, even though all he did was write down that there was a difference in where the stars in the Babylonian catalogs were compared to his time… which was why the Babylonians were writing them down, because they’d known for thousands of years that they moved 😄. Yeah, this is a good video. Maybe one day, AI will get good enough for us regular folk to make sweet science animations in our vids.
::Hi, Everyone!!! My name is Abbey Quinn. I practice ancient Mesopotamian astrology; namely Sumerian. I learned astrology by studying ancient texts and studying the Sumerian and Assyrian literature, which means I know next to nothing about the astrology of the last 2,000 years, and I’m excited to learn from everyone, and go through the certification courses ISAA is putting together! I’m in love with ancient astrology and astronomy, and I’m so grateful to be a part of an organization that promotes both!!!
